MEP Awards: Devnath Sampath from Voltas wins Project Manager of the Year 2010

Devnath Sampath from Voltas is Project Manager of the Year, announced at the MEP Awards 2010 held at the Westin last night in Dubai.

The judges commented that “this category was pretty evenly competed for by both consultants and contractors alike, even though the pressures on both may well actually be slightly different, given the varying emphasis in the delivery and execution of a project.

"All those submitting are integral to the industry, and of course their respective companies, so each are commended for being put forward.”

Deo Human from ALEC MEP was highly commended for his drive and enthusiasm, with the judges declaring that he is “dedicated, professional and succeeds in quality accomplishments. He has a very bright future in the industry ahead of him.”

Sampath caught the attention of the judges with a list of projects and associated long-term expertise “worthy of more than one person," said the judges.

"His commitment to Ferrari World, to name but one project, is exceptional given its scale, and the role and responsibility Voltas actually undertook on this project. He clearly has the highest ranking of all those he was competing against for this award.”

Currently holding the position of VP and director: projects, Sampath has 35 years’ experience in the electro-mechanical industry. He had an initial stint of two years in India, ten years in the Far East and 23 years in the Middle East.

Sampath has been at the helm in spearheading huge projects such as defense bases, hospitals, rulers’ palaces, five-star hotels, oil and gas control centres, malls and residential and commercial complexes.

His expertise on the design aspect of complicated HVAC installations has helped both consultants as well as clients in delivering value-engineered solutions, thus reducing both initial and lifecycle costs of projects.

Heading operations involving more than 400 engineers and other supporting staff, along with about 4,000 operatives, Sampath has made an immense contribution to the continued growth of Voltas.

Currently he is overseeing AED3 billion worth of MEP projects in the Middle East. This includes Ferrari World and Central Market in Abu Dhabi, of which the MEP aggregate value is in excess of AED1.15 billion.
