Top 5 silly reasons employees give to resign

'I was working for my parents until they decided to move'; 'I am moving because my girlfriend left the city'; 'I am staying very far from the workplace' are few of the silly reasons that make your manager laugh at your silliness rather than being concerned.

However, when it comes to India the reasons seem to differ a bit. Owing to the difference in the culture and lifestyle, employees here rely more on the reasons dealing with home or family matters. To find the top silly reasons which are used most often by employees in India, we got in touch with managers of various companies. When asked, managers came up with several reasons which they have found silly and inappropriate.

Here is the list of the top five reasons based on the extent of their silliness:

1.Getting married:

Female employees leaving their job so as to adjust to new set up or shift to their husbands' place might convince a manager. But male employees resigning just because they are getting married can not. It is the silliest of all the resaons. Speaking from her experiences, Fathima Kauser, Business Development Manager, Impressions Ark said, "As a manager, out of all the reasons I have come across, men leaving because of marriage is the most silly and fake."

2.Adjusting to Environment :

Employee leaving their job because of his/her inability to adjust to the environmental conditions is also quite funny for many employers. Managers have agreed that various employees while seeking their approval for resignation have used this reason. The reason is not only impractical but obviously fails to convince managers too.

3.Professional Line:

Not interested in the work they are doing, changing the line; this is after working for years in the same line are also some of the most commonly used reasons. Sridhar Kudamala, Project Manager, Mindtree, said "People would say that they are more interested to work on Implementation projects rather working on Maintenance projects." However, the ground reality is that there are not many projects(less than 10%) in Implementation category across the industry, whereas most of them (90%) are Maintenance projects, he added.

4.To Support Father:

'Going back to home town to support father's businesses' is the second reason Fathima Kauser of Impressions Ark has come across most often. Employees leaving their years old job and putting their entire career like at stake just to support their fathers' 'businesses', which is definitely not amongst the Birlas or Tatas is silly as well as unpersuasive.

5.Parents' Health:

Citing health problems along with health issues of the family members especially parents for leaving the job also seems to quite famous among employees. With the extent to which this reason has been used has led managers to not believe in this. Though there can be some true instances too. Employers find this silly as parents can always shift to the employees' city rather than he/she leaving only because they are 'ill'.
