U.S army now practices Yoga

U.S army has introduced Yoga practice for the first time to boost the "combat readiness" of its army. Yoga is being made as the part of the new forces to improve the physical fitness and to prepare the the army for tough operations. Christian Science Monitor quoting Pentagon sources reported that the This "combat readiness" program is been introduced for the first time in 30 years. The program will be initiated from March 1.

The training will incorporate the elements of yoga and benefits of other workouts.

Gen. Mark Hertling, deputy commanding general for initial military training at the US Army's Training and Doctrine Command said "We've only done push-ups, sit-ups and a two-mile run,' for the past 30 years but none of those address the kinds of things soldiers are asked to do in combat." He also added 'There have been all kinds of rumors about what this is and what it isn't. People have said, 'It's yoga-like, it's like Pilates'. And frankly, it is all those things'. He pointed out that tough training leads to stress, fractures and other injuries.

The army has been using this Indian meditation art to treat cases of "Post-traumatic Stress Disorders"(PTSD). It was found that the soldiers who took up yoga had reported remarkable results in suppressing PTSD and mental tensions.
