The session on HTML 5 by Shwetank Dixit, Web Evangelist, Opera Software, on the second day of Spark IT 2011 here, was a deep dive session covering various aspects like tools, techniques, browsers and devices.
He covered almost all aspects of HTML5 including Canvas, tagging, DOCTYPE, Web Forms, Calendar, CSS3, Geolocation, and a few topics like CSS3, WOFF and SVG.
Dixit started with an overview on HTML, the previous scenario and why developers should look forward to HTML5.
He said, “Previous versions like HTML 4 (.01) were web pages, static documents, while HTML has standards to focus web application. It provides more readable codes, lesser plugins and pains.
Three building blocks of web
Moving over to CSS3, he said, “HTML, CSS and Java are the three building blocks of web. With the new CSS as CSS3, developers get access to a host of features like border radius, WOFF (Web Open Font Format, a font format for use in web pages) and transitioning /transforming and media queries as Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG).”
Shwetank Dixit shared about how the new technologies today are looking forward to provide content offline, and this can be enabled through application cache on HTML5.
